espanol

So I am trying to learn Spanish. Partly inspired from my brother who is now in Argentina, partly because I am going to Costa Rica, but mostly because I want to. I also met a beautiful Mexican painter named Jose who is helping me a little bit. (I will post a picture as soon as I have access to a camera cord-thanks Paul....) I have no one to practice with. Also, it is uncomfortable for me to speak Spanish when I am not sure how much I am pronouncing things correctly or if it is even the right word. It is kinda frustrating. Rosetta Stone is helping me some. I am not getting my hour of Spanish in everyday, but hopefully being in the environment and around people that are willing to help me will work.

Try finding a children's book at the library in Spanish that has an audiotape to go with it. These should be readily available in Atlanta. Then you can practice reading with the audiotape. It's free.

Learning a foreign language is probably the hardest thing I´ve ever tried to do. My guess is you will pick up what you need pretty quickly since you have a sharp mind. I´m told that comic books are great practice to start out reading since the words are simple and there is a photo to go along with it. Don´t worry about pronunciation, if you try to speak in spanish, people will see it as a sign of respect that you are trying. Besides, even if you do achieve fluency, you will ALWAYS have an accent. Mexico and Costa Rica are good places to learn since the accent is easier for Americans to understand. I´m finding the accent here is a little hard to get used to and I hear that the same is true in Chile.
