embarassed
so why does America think that they are better than everywhere else? Are we? Why is it that a person from Costa Rica can travel anywhere in the world, but needs a visa to even leave a section of the airport in America? Who do we think we are? Why is it like that. I was actually embarrassed to be an American when I found that out. I swear, sometimes, people need to step outside their little box of a world and look at things from a different perspective. People are f'n people!

it's because there aren't 2 armies going after other countries.
The first army is terrorists who we are trying to keep out. They are not going after Costa Rica. They are going after the US.
The second army is the people who are simply trying to get into the US because, without a doubt, this country has the most opportunity, the freest society, low taxes, low corruption (comparatively), safety, and is a place where anyone with determination and skills can succeed. There is simply no other country like it and that's why everyone is trying to come.
Joe's right, safety is an issue.
You're right, we are arrogant.
But so is everyone. Get to know the Costa Ricans better, and you'll find out that they have egos just as big as everyone else's.
Have you read the book INFIDEL or THE KITE RUNNER? Those books will help you understand why people want to come to America. That will give you a perspective on why we still think this is the best country in the world, despite our shortcomings.

People are people . . .except when they blow up towers and kill 3,000 people.
